The early season grind continued on Tuesday evening when the Pattys faced off with Hilliard Davidson at Patriots Stadium in their 4th game in 11 days. Coming off a lackluster performance on Saturday loss vs. Oregon Clay (Toledo), the Liberty players and coaching staff were hoping to bounce back with a better collective effort vs. an undefeated and talented (3-0) Davidson squad.
The overall effort, teamwork and quality of play over 80 minutes was much improved, and the only disappointment of the evening was walking away with a draw vs. a win.
The first half was evenly played with both teams registering 4 shots and the score tied 0-0 at the break. Play opened up and opportunities increased for both teams in the second half, and Liberty would strike first off a corner kick in the 43rd minute, when Elise Koshan drove the ball perfectly into the mixer where Gia Gaetano timed her run and drilled a leaping header into the net. However, the lead was short lived when Davidson’s Sonia Vargas capitalized on a Liberty defensive lapse and netted the equalizer in the 46th.
For the balance of the match the Pattys had the better of play and possession, including a breakaway that was turned away impressively by Davidson’s GK, Lauren White. Although the Pattys outshot Davidson 13-7 and 55% possession on the match, the second goal did not come and the match ended at 1-1.
In the earlier JVA match, the team improved to 3-1-0 with their third consecutive win by a score of 1-0. Alexa Hill scored the game winner and Sav Blessing and Alyssa Ruddock combined in goal for the shutout, in addition to a solid effort from the entire roster.
The Pattys now go on an extended four game road trip with schedule details listed HERE, and the next home game will be on Saturday, September 15th.
