Liberty Bounces Back On Senior Night With 1-0 Win Over Westerville Central
October 6, 2016

On Tuesday, the Watterson Eagles visited Patriots stadium highly motivated to end a 3 year winless streak against the Patriots.  With an inspired team effort, Watterson handed the Pattys their second defeat of the season by the score of 1-3.

Although Liberty outshot Watterson by a 12-7 margin and held a 7-0 advantage on corner kicks, Watterson did maintain an edge in possession for the match and a significant advantage in winning of 50/50 balls.

The score was tied at half, but two goals by Watterson in the first 5 minutes of the second half put Liberty at a major disadvantage. With 20 minutes left, the Pattys went to three in the back and made some tactical adjustments, but were not able to find the net until the 73rd minute when Abby Townsend hit the upper 90 from the left flank off a throw-in assist from Abby Jones.

Two minutes later, Liberty almost equalized on a cross from Sophie Fallieras but the shot by Jones sailed just over the crossbar.

Watterson added a final goal in the 78th minute on a counter attack when Liberty had sent numbers forward, and the score would stand at 1-3 at the final whistle.

The Patriots will regroup and prepare for Senior Night on Thursday vs. conference opponent Westerville Central.

GO PATTYS!
