The Pattys traveled to Thomas Worthington on Tuesday night with the OCC Central Division Championship already in hand, but had their eyes on a win and first undefeated conference season in program history. Liberty would complete the conference sweep with a 2-1 win over the Cardinals, finishing 7-0-0 in the highly competitive OCC Central Division, which features the #3 seed in the region (Coffman), #4 seed (Thomas Worthington) and #6 seed (Liberty).  The Patriots finish ahead of Thomas Worthington (4-1-2) and Coffman (4-2-1), who was upset by Upper Arlington last evening .

In the match, Liberty had the run of play for the first 25 minutes, but Thomas Worthington would score first when they found the back of the net directly from a corner kick in the 26th minute.

The Pattys countered with just over seven minutes remaining in the half when Senior Captain Hailey Pickelheimer worked through the Cardinal midfield and slotted a ball to the far post, which caught the Thomas defenders and goalkeeper off guard and found the back of the net. The goal was unassisted. The score would stand at 1-1 at half.

In the second half, Liberty controlled possession throughout the half, with the Cardinals’ main threats coming on set pieces and counter attacks. Junior Goalkeeper Emma Campbell made a key save on a corner kick and another on a 1v1 stop, while Junior Emma Koshan and Senior Captain Emma Waters each cleared a ball off the line to prevent a likely Thomas Worthington score.

The game winner would be delivered in the 45th minute when Sophomore Natalie Amodeo made a strong run up the right flank, beat her defender and drew a crossing pass back through the top of the box, where Junior Sarina Dirrig made a run over the ball attracting a defender, leaving Pickelheimer alone with the ball, and she drilled the ball into the left side of the goal. Amodeo and Dirrig were both credited with assists, and the goals were Pickelheimer’s 6th and 7th of the season. Click HERE for the latest highlight reel from the “Fike Fan Cam”

For the match, Liberty outshot Thomas Worthington by a 18-13 margin, and had 11 corner kicks to the Cardinals’ 3.

This represents the first time the Pattys have won back to back conference championships, and the 2015 season is the first time the squad had has gone undefeated n conference play. Congratulations on the OCC Central Championship!
