The 2018 Olentangy Liberyt Girls soccer season kicked off at home last night with a “Friday Night Lights” matchup against Dublin Coffman. The energy was high with a solid student section and home crowd on hand for the debut of the 2018 Pattys.
Action was fast and physical from the start, with Coffman getting the better of play early while the Liberty squad found their feet. Possession evened out as the first half progressed, and in the 28th minute the Pattys would open the scoring when Elise Koshan blasted a free kick from 35 yards out that found its way through the Coffman defense and into the corner of the net. The score would stand at 1-0 going into the half.
The Shamrocks pressed hard coming out of the break, and the Pattys were caught a bit flat early, yielding a scoring opportunity within seconds of the kickoff. Moments later in the 43rd minute a Coffman shot off the cross bar was recovered by Coffman’s Catherine Zugaro who slotted home the equalizer while the Liberty defense tried to recover.
For the remainder of the second half, Coffman put pressure on the Pattys but the back line and Senior GK Riley Cartwright stood tall and turned away all scoring chances to end the match in a 1-1 draw.
For the match, Coffman registered 13 shots to Liberty’s 3, and Cartwright recorded 6 saves.
In the earlier JV matches, JVB lost to Jerome 1-2 and JVA fell to Coffman 0-2.
Next up JVB hosts Thomas Worthington on Monday on the practice field at 5:30PM, and JVA/Varsity host Hilliard Bradley in the stadium beginning at 5:30PM.
