Pattys Suffer First Loss at Gahanna, JVA Draws -2
September 6, 2016

MarysvilleThe Marysville Monarchs visited Patriots Stadium on Tuesday night with a goal to avenge last year’s 5-1 loss at Liberty, in what used to be a conference rivalry before the 2016 OCC realignment.

Although Marysville created some dangerous chances throughout the match, the Pattys delivered another shutout win by a score of 2-0, and move to 4-0-0 on the season. JVA is also 4-0-0 after a matching 2-0 win over the Monarchs.

In the JVA match, Laura Bichsel opened the scoring with a left footed blast off an assist from a long punt by Goalkeeper Riley Cartwright. Elise Koshan sealed the win with an unassisted goal.  Cartwright and Maddie Kelley, along with help from the entire defensive unit secured the shutout.

In the Varsity match, the Patriots once again struggled through a flat start, but still had the better of possession at the break with the score 0-0. The Pattys brought more intensity and patience in the final third to start the second half, and took the lead in the 58th minute when Senior Ellie Bambeck received a pass from Junior Madison Rapier on the left flank, cut the ball back to beat her defender across the middle and curled a low driven ball far post past the diving keeper for her first Varsity goal. The victory was sealed 10 minutes later when Junior Abby Jones received a throw in from Abby Summers, turned and launched a shot to the far post upper 90 for her team leading 4th goal of the season.  Senior Captain Emma Campbell (2 saves) and Senior Grace Poncsak (4 saves) turned in stellar performances in goal,  splitting time between the posts.  On the season, the Pattys have scored  10 goals, allowed only one, and have 3 shutouts in 4 attempts.

Marysville’s goalkeeper, Anna Weigand, made a major difference for the Monarchs with 10 saves. Several denied sure goals, including tipping of a ball over the crossbar on a chip from outside the box by Natalie Amodeo, and a diving save on a far post rocket from Abby Jones.

Next up for Liberty JVA/Varsity will be Gahanna, away on Tuesday, September 6th.  Gahanna is also 4-0-0.

GO PATTYS!
