The Patriots traveled to Marysville on Tuesday for a conference matchup and both teams recorded wins.

JVA won 6-1, and Kasey Reida scored three goals on her birthday, with tallies added by Abby Townsend, Sophie Fallieras, and Brooke Severance. Emma Campbell had 5 saves in goal in the first half, and Ally Piero added one save in the second half.

Varsity battled through a sluggish first 30 minutes and had difficulty across the board adjusting to the slower, natural grass surface, but ended the first half with a 1-0 lead after Katie Kill drew a Penalty kick and Emma Ranalli converted for the goal.

The Pattys came out with better energy to start the second half and less than 15 minutes in the Patriots had extended the lead to 3-0.  The first goal of the second half came off a corner kick from Ranalli when Lexy Fisher battled for the ball in the mixer, and put it passed the goalkeeper. The final goal came after some outstanding 1 v 1 attacking by Natalie Flahive, who beat three defenders in the corner of the box, played the ball off the outside of her foot to Jordan Fike who calmly finished with a well hit left footed shot to the upper left corner.

Marysville was well organized, did a good job of possessing the ball, and threatened at times with an attack that tried to stretch the Liberty back line, but were not able to muster any shots on goal for the evening.

Overall it was not the most polished performance of the season, but earning the conference victory at the opponent’s home field and staying undefeated through 7 games gives Liberty a positive result to build on.

The Patriots are now 6-0-1 on the season and 3-0-0 in conference, with only two goals allowed in 7 games, and 28 goals scored. The Patriots sit at #3 in the OSSCA State Division I poll and #1 in the Central District as of 9/8/14.

Next up for both JVA and Varsity is intra-district rival Olentangy Orange on Saturday.

GO PATRIOTS!
