On Wednesday evening after team training and an all program dinner, a group of Pattys players headed to MAPFRE Stadium to observe the US Women’s National Soccer Team training session in preparation for their match tonight vs. Thailand.

wntWhat many of you may not know is that our own JVA Coach, Jenna (Richmond) Wiet has a long list of US WNT players in her address book, because she has played with most of them at some point in her career. Coach Wiet is very humble about her amazing soccer accomplishments and would prefer to keep things low key. But we thought we should share that as a graduate from UCLA, she was a 4-year starter and captain of the 2013 NCAA championship team (coached by current US WNT coach, Jill Ellis), and following her collegiate career, she was drafted 16th overall by FC Kansas City in the National Women’s Soccer League and won the 2013 NWSL Championship.  She has extensive experience at the national level, where she was a member of the U.S. Women’s Youth National teams (U-14 through U-23). Coach Jenna is also married to Matt Wiet, a Worthington Kilbourne grad, UCLA standout and former homegrown player for MLS Columbus Crew!

Last night, the players got to meet two of Jenna’s former teammates after training; Sam Mewis (UCLA) and US WNT Captain Becky Sauerbrunn (FCKC), among others and they have the picture to prove it.!

Thank you Coach Jenna for sharing this amazing experience and for being a great role model for all young women soccer players.

GO PATTYS!
