On Monday evening, the entire 2015 Pattys Soccer program gathered to celebrate the effort and accomplishments of all three teams, every player and the Varsity team’s historic season. Over 170 were in attendance including OLHS Athletic Director, Darin Meeker, at Scioto Reserve Country Club.

The evening opened with a prayer of thanks from Hailey Pickelheimer, and the dinner hour featured a rotating slide show of over 900 photos that were contributed by many parents throughout the season, along with video highlights from the “Jeff Fike Fan Cam”.

After dinner, the celebration was on, with each team receiving their individual participation and academic awards from Coach Tiffany Harrison (JVB) and Doug Williamson (JVA). For Junior Varsity Blue (JVB), Freshman Laura Bichsel (16 goals, 4 assists) was named MVP, and the Junior Varsity (JVA) MVP was Sophomore Madison Rapier (17 goals, 3 assists).

The Varsity recognition program that followed was impressive, as the team was honored for their team and individual accomplishments, including the school’s (and first ever for the entire  school district) Girls D1 Regional Championship and State Semifinal appearance.

In addition to the nine (9) All-Conference and three (3) All-District selections that were previously shared HERE, several additional Varsity honors were highlighted at the banquet, which included:

  • MVP: Sarina Dirrig (Junior)
  • Scholar Athlete Award (Highest GPA): Emma Waters (Senior Captain)
  • True Patriot Award (Performance, Attitude, Hustle): Hailey Pickelheimer (Senior Captain)
  • Most Improved Award: Meridith Shook (Senior)
  • Captains Award: Emma Waters (2 Year Captain), Hailey Pickelheimer
  • 2nd Team All-State: Sarina Dirrig
  • “Super 12” 1st Team: Sarina Dirrig
  • Central District Senior All-Star Game: Emma Waters, Hailey Pickelheimer, Jordan Fike

The evening continued with “Captain Recognition” by Coach Kristen McMahon (Waters, Pickelheimer), the inaugural “Varsity Superlative” Awards presented by the seniors, the traditional “Junior Poem” and Senior Recognition & Gifts (Fike, Pickelheimer, Shook, Waters).

Next up was a video tribute to all three teams and the seniors, followed by a 2015 Goal Highlight Reel (highlight reel can also be viewed HERE).

The final version of the 2015 Banquet Program, Statistics & Season Honors can be found HERE, which has all of the team records, Varsity stats, post season honors, senior snapshot and historical information.

Coach McMahon concluded the evening with a thank you to all of the players, parents and volunteers, urged the returning players to dedicate themselves to do the work required to continue the success of the program, and previewed what looks to be a very bright future for the Pattys.

A special thanks on the evening to Carrie Coyne, who led the Banquet Committee, for planning an incredible event, to Keith Pickelheimer for the amazing video presentations, and to Mike Bambeck for producing and donating the stand-up action shot center pieces of every player.

In addition, the Olentangy Liberty Girls Soccer Coaching Staff shares their gratitude to every volunteer who gave their time and talents to enhance the program this year. There are too many to list, but please know your impact is greatly appreciated and is a big part of why Pattys Soccer is respected as one of the top girls soccer programs in the state.

And in closing, this will be my (Jim Waters) last post for “Pattys Press Releases”. My hope is that someone will pick up where this leaves off and continue to document the remarkable accomplishments of these talented and dedicated young women who make all of us so proud!

As always, GO PATTYS!
