September 1, 2015The Liberty Patriots Varsity Girls Soccer team opened the season on Tuesday night at Hilliard Bradley and were defeated by a score of 0-2. The Pattys had the better of possession in the first half, and looked to be in a position to take control in the second half.
However, Bradley came out in the second half with high energy and a much improved attacking mentality and were rewarded with goals in the 45th and 54th minute on two quality strikes. The Pattys tried to mount a comeback but were not successful in finding the back of the net, and Bradley earned their second victory of the season. The non-conference game will provide an opportunity for learning and improvement at this very early stage in the season.
In the earlier match, JVA defeated Bradley by a score of 3-0. Madison Rapier scored all three goals, and assists were recorded by Brooke Severance and Malia Follmer. Goalkeepers Aly Piero and Maddie Garner recorded the shutout behind a strong defensive effort by the back line.
The Varsity enters conference play next Tuesday on the road at Central Crossing at 6PM. There is no JVA match that day. Both teams are in action next Thursday versus Watterson at 5:30PM & 7:15PM.
In JVB action, the Pattys dropped their home opener to Olentangy 0-1 on Monday, and played to a 1-1 draw again Olentangy Orange on Wednesday, with the goal scored by Laura Bichsel and a strong effort in goal by Haley Gibson. JVB is at Grandview next Monday, and home for Watterson on Wednesday, both at 5:30PM.
