On Wednesday night, Olentangy Liberty High School Girls Soccer’s 60 players, 4 coaches, support staff and families gathered at Scioto Reserve Country Club to celebrate a remarkable 2014 season and many first time accomplishments for the program.

Coach Saiben, Coach McMahon, Coach Rambo and Coach Beatty recognized all of the players and individual and team accomplishments that resulted in an overall program record of 39 wins, 2 losses, 10 draws, having outscored the opponents 164 to 24.

Some of the firsts that were highlighted at the banquet:

  • 1st season with 17 wins, most in program history
  • 1st season with 2 losses, least in program history
  • 1st season with 16 total shutouts and 8 consecutive shutouts, most in program history and both ranking in top 10 in OHSAA history
  • 1st season with 4 goals allowed, least in program history and ranking top 5 in OHSAA history
  • 1st season with 3 All-District players AND 9 All-Conference players
  • 1st season with a Conference & District Player of the Year
  • 1st season with a Conference & District Coach of the Year
  • 1st season with a Super 12 Captain (ThisWeek News Central Ohio Player of the Year)
  • 1st season with a 1st Team All State player
  • 1st OCC Central Conference Championship (previous were 2006, 2007, 2009 before realignment), regarded as the top conference in the state featuring 4 District Finalists
  • 1st Central District Championship
  • 1st appearance in State Tournament as Regional Semifinalists (Sweet 16)

After an outstanding slide show produced by Keith Pickelheimer, Coach Saiben concluded the evening by thanking the coaches, players, parents and volunteers for their support and contributions to the success of the program. She reminded all to keep in mind the bigger purpose of participating in high school sports, and challenged the returning players to commit to work harder than ever to continue the success of the Patriots Girls Soccer program.

The 2014 season is in the books, and the future remains bright for Olentangy Liberty Girls Soccer.
