In a match that was called complete with 38:00 minutes remaining in the second half due to lightning in the area, the Patriots Varsity Girls brought home a victory in the season opener against Westerville North by a score of 2-0.

Liberty opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes on a quality ball from Natalie Flahive to Jordan Fike, who calmly finished the chance.  Mackenzie Coyne also provided a spark up top off the bench. The Pattys scored again before the half on a corner from Emma Ranalli (C) that was headed home by Lexy Fisher. The Patriot midfield dominated possession with a strong effort from Ranalli, Fisher, Sarina Dirrig and Olivia Sensky.  Outside midfielders Kylie Slusser, Hailey Pickelheimer and Katie Kill controlled the flanks, and another strong showing by the defensive unit led by Katie Best (C), Emma Waters (C), and the tag team of Hayley Hickman and Emma Koshan resulted in a uneventful night for Senior GK Miranda Kuhns. Liberty has yet to yield a goal in all competitions to date.

Westerville North’s Goalkeeper, Taylor Johnson, turned in a stellar effort, turning back several attempts that looked to be sure goals.

In the earlier JVA match, the Pattys battled to a 1-1 draw. Scoring for Liberty was Junior Mikaela Stefanik.

Next up for JVA & Varsity are away matches at Worthington Christian on Thursday, August 21st, with kickoff times of 5:00PM and 7:00PM, respectively.

GO PATRIOTS!!!
