The Liberty Girls Varsity Soccer squad kicked off the season featuring a roster filled with talent, but with only five returning starters and seven new faces, experience was an ingredient that needed to be added to the mix. After a grueling stretch of 7 games in 19 days to start the season, the 2018 Pattys have been on an accelerated and challenging course of learning and growth, including early season matchups against 4 teams that won (at least) District Championships in the 2017 campaign, and a Dublin Jerome squad (with very few roster losses) who the Pattys defeated in the 2017 D1 Elite 8.

In Tuesday night’s capper to this early season marathon, Liberty traveled to Newark, and after an 1+ hour bus ride in 95 degree heat and an early kickoff on the steamy turf of White Stadium, the Pattys managed to shake off a sluggish start and deliver a convincing 5-0 win.  Every player on the roster registered significant minutes, with goals scored by Laura Bichsel assisted by Jasmine Hauser (3′), Victoria Susi assisted by Laura Bichsel (32″), Laura Bichsel unassisted (44′), Emma Lindsey assisted by Gia Gaetano (52′) and Rachel Davidson assisted by Emma Lindsey (55′).

The Liberty defensive unit led by Caitlin Curmode, Lindsey Kijowski, Jasmine Hauser and Addi Moeller along with Goalkeepers Riley Cartwright and Maddie Kelley combined for the shutout.  The win takes the season record to 2-3-2, and you can find all teams schedules and results HERE. There was no JVA match at Newark.

The Pattys now enjoy a brief break in the match schedule to prepare for OCC-Buckeye play with 5 of the 9 remaining regular season matches coming against conference foes, the first being next Thursday, October 13th at Olentangy Orange.

GO PATTYS!
