The Patties unbeaten season continues following Tuesday night’s wide open and hard fought OCC Central Conference match vs. a talented Hilliard Davidson Wildcats team. When the final whistle blew, the score was 3-3, and was capped off with a dramatic equalizer by Julia Bruno with 3 seconds left to earn the draw.

The Patriots opened the scoring early, with Natalie Flahive beating three Davidson defenders off a feed from Julia Bruno.  The Patriots struck again with 12 minutes remaning in the half on an Emma Waters corner kick that was driven to the near post where Sarina Dirrig buried the header for goal number two.  The 2-0 lead was short-lived as Davidson struck near the end of the half when Wildcat standout Ashley Blake got behind the Patriots’ defender on a beautiful 40 yard driven cross and buried the chance.

The Wildcats came out with high energy and effort in the second half, and before the midway point of the second half Davidson’s Devon McLellan had buried two shots from distance on the left flank to give Davidson a 3-2 lead.

The match evened out in the last ten minutes with each team having solid chances, and it looked like the Patriots were headed to their first defeat. But the Patty’s would not be denied. With 24 seconds remaining, the defense won the ball inside their own box, played the ball forward to Sarina Dirrig, who connected with Jordan Fike on a chip behind two defenders. Fike played the ball to the corner to a sprinting Natalie Flahive who crossed the ball back to Fike, who redirected to Julia Bruno, and the Senior Captain and Miami University recruit calmly buried the chance and equalized the match with three seconds remaining.

In earning the draw, the Patriots remain unbeaten at 8-0-3 overall and 4-0-1 in the OCC Central Confernce, featuring 3 of the top 5 rated teams in the entire Central District (Coffman, Liberty & Davidson). Most important, with the tie the Patriots control their own destiny in their quest for an OCC Central Conference Championship.  Wins over Coffman next Tuesday and Thomas Worthington  in the final conference match would insure sole possession of first place.

The Patriots return to action on Thursday night against a very solid Hilliard Bradley team that enters the match at 6-3-1 and ranked #10 in the most recent Central District Poll.

In the early match, the Patriots JVA squad won 3-0, also remaining unbeaten on the season. Check out https://libertygirlssoccer.com/schedules/all-teams-schedules-results/ for all teams schedules and results
